Special Session
Dear Neighbors and Friends -
Last week the Maryland General Assembly came together to override Governor Larry Hogan's vetoes. I am proud that many of my colleagues stayed steadfast in their belief in the work we are trying to accomplish in the state and voted in favor of passing over 20 different pieces of legislation.
In addition to overriding the Governor's vetoes, the General Assembly was able to pass the new legislative map for the state Congressional Districts. Under the leadership of Speaker Adrienne Jones and Senate President Bill Ferguson, we followed the recommendation from the bi-partisan Legislative Redistricting Advisory Committee. When the Maryland General Assembly reconvenes in January, we will vote on a new map for the state-level legislative districts.
Lastly, before the General Assembly concluded its business on Thursday evening, I was proud to cast my vote for Prince George's County's very own Chairman Delegate Dereck E. Davis as the Treasurer-Elect for the state of Maryland. Chairman Davis will be the first Prince Georgian to serve in this role once he is sworn in. I do not doubt that the Chairman will do well in this new role.
As we approach the holidays, I want to wish you all a very Happy and Safe Holiday. I look forward to going back to Annapolis to advocate for you and your interests in January.
Sincerely,
Nicole
Nancy Kopp State Treasurer
I would like to take a moment to honor and thank Maryland State Treasurer Nancy Kopp for all of her years of service and hard work. Treasurer Kopp has been a fixture in Maryland state politics for over 46 years. During her time in the House of Delegates, Nancy Kopp served the people of District 16 in Montgomery County. While at the Maryland General Assembly, she served as the Assistant House Majority Leader, Speaker Pro Tem, and several other significant leadership roles. Furthermore, she has been a pioneer and champion for women legislators throughout the state. As she retires her legacy will stand the test of time. Thank you, Treasurer Kopp.
Delegate Dereck Davis Economic Matters Committee Chair
On Thursday, December 9, 2021, House Economic Matters Committee Chairman Delegate Dereck Davis was elected as the new Treasurer for the state of Maryland. As the state Treasurer, Delegate Davis will have the important job of protecting the interests of Marylanders and working on the state Board of Public Works. He began his political career at the age of 27 as one of the youngest African Americans ever elected to the Maryland General Assembly. In 2003, Delegate Davis was appointed as the Chair of the Economic Matters Committee, where he would serve in the position for 18 years. It has been an honor to serve with him in the House of Delegates. I look forward to seeing all things he will do for the state of Maryland in his new role.

Maryland General Assembly Veto Overrides
During the 2021 Special Session, the House of Delegates and Senate spent two days overriding Governor Larry Hogan's veto on pivotal bills meant to improve the lives of Marylanders. Each vetoed bill was presented before the House and Senate. The bills were thoroughly discussed on the floor and were ultimately passed by both the House and Senate. As your Delegate, I believe that each of these bills will positively impact you and other Marylanders. To see a list of the MGA overrides click the links below. December 7, 2021 December 8, 2021
Maryland Redistricting
The General Assembly has passed HB1, which establishes new congressional lines in Maryland for the next decade. The lines are based on a recommendation from the Maryland Legislative Redistricting Advisory Commission (LRAC), composed of House and Senate Majority and Minority Leadership. The new map made changes to the boundaries across the State, including here in Prince George's County. Governor Larry Hogan vetoed the map and the General Assembly ultimately voted to override the Governor's veto. If you would like to see the new finalized map, click here.

I encourage you all to get vaccinated as we enter flu season. My office and I are fully vaccinated, in addition, we have just received our boosters as well. If you have any further questions, contact my office and someone will be more than happy to assist you.
Your Delegate, Your Voice.
Two years ago, I was sworn in by the amazing Speaker Adrienne Jones to represent the residents of District 22 in the MD House of Delegates. On the first day of the 2021 Special Session, I was reminded why I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve.
As we go into the holiday season, I want to wish you, your families, and friends a very happy, safe, and prosperous Holiday. As we come together, please remember that more unites us than divides us. I look forward to seeing you all in the New Year.
